JRC participates in NYSARC’s “It Matters to me, too” campaign.DATES: May 11, 2016
"It Matters to me” is a statewide grassroots advocacy campaign organized by NYSARC, Inc. It is designed to share the personal, compelling stories and circumstances of concerned families and providers on the issues that matter most to them.
The campaign was born from the voices of individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, their families, friends, caregivers and community who have rallied to support their right to choose how they live their lives!
The Federal and State government are proposing many changes that will affect the individuals for whom we provide supports. Most times when asked what matters to them, they will talk about their work and their homes.
Individuals were asked to write what matters to them on a colored square which will be put together with others to create a "quilt". Other Chapters will send in their squares, along with ours, to Suffolk AHRC.
When the Suffolk Chapter puts this together it will be revealed in Suffolk County on June 16, 2016... then will travel to different agencies and to Albany.
Before we sent our squares to Suffolk, we made copies for ourselves. They can be see in the Residential Department office in the West Wing. The website to learn more about this campaign Click Here
